Single Player Crashing Direwolf20 Pack
Best Answer timrem , 30 October 2014 - 03:20 AM
I used to play the Direwolf20 1.4.7 pack on a 32-bit machine. You could potentially play the Direwolf20 1.6 pack if you removed a good number of mods, but no promises. Like it said, it's all about memory requirements. The Direwolf20 1.6 pack has over a hundred mods, many which add numerous items and entities. That all adds to the required RAM to run the pack, and at a certain point, 32-bit Java caps out and crashes.
In the FTB Launcher, you can click the 'edit pack' button to remove mods you don't need. You'll probably need to strip out a few of the larger ones if you want it to run on a 32-bit system.

If you're on a 32-bit system, the only 1.6 FTB pack that's recommended is FTB Lite 2. You might have luck running some of the larger packs for older versions of Minecraft, but it all comes down to RAM: 32-bit Java has a strict limit of how much memory it can make use of, and large 1.6 packs like the Direwolf20 pack require more memory than 32-bit Java can handle. (And no, 64-bit Java will not run if you have a 32-bit Operating System)

The ftb lite 2 has almost none of the mods that I'd like to play, which is the issue, it doesn't even have ic2 I don't think. So could I play an older version of direwolf's pack? Or maybe I could create a custom pack? Why is it that I can't play the pack? Do some mods require 64 bit java/os?

That could work too.Ok I'll probably disable a few mods that I don't care too much about in the direwolf20 pack. Thanks!
