Allocate more memory, Help me?

Best Answer dgelessus , 03 June 2014 - 10:18 AM

You have a system-wide setting set that always sets your Java heap space to 512 MB. To get rid of it, do the following:

  1. Make sure that you are logged in as an admin on your computer.
  2. Open the Control Panel.
  3. Go to System.
  4. In the left sidebar, click Advanced System Properties.
  5. Click on Environment Variables.
  6. In the bottom list, see if you can find an entry named "_JAVA_OPTIONS".
  7. Select it, click Edit and change the name to something different (e. g. "_JAVA_OPTIONS_DISABLED").
  8. Click OK on all windows, close the System window and see if it works.

By the way, you should never allocate all of your RAM to the client or server. If you have 16 GB, it should be enough to allocate 8 GB to the server and 4 GB to the client (if you are playing on the same machine as the server is on).

So... I'm making a personal server for Monster. i was able to get it to run but i can't seem to get it to go above 512mb of memory. even though i have 16 gig of ram to use.

I use win 7 x64 and java x64

the serverstart notepad is

java -Xms512m -Xmx16g -XX:PermSize=128m -jar FTBServer.jar nogui
pause

i can't seem to change the Xms512m to 16g otherwise it will say

Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Xmx512M

Error occurred during initialization of VM

incompatible minimum and maximum heap sizes specified

press any key to continue...

I suppose you're referring to this crash you mentioned in another thread. That is not actually caused by the RAM issue, but it appears that a file wasn't downloaded correctly. If you have any worlds, back them up, then delete the modpack folder and redownload it.
