What would be a good pack to start playing on?

Hey guys, first post here, so please tell me if I'm breaking any unspoken rules. Anyway, I was wondering what a good pack to start playing on would be. I have looked through the launcher and wiki, and am kind of in over my head, there is just so much stuff. I previously played a ton of the Tekkit pack, so I guess something similar to that. However, it has been a LONG time since then. Is the FTB Monster Pack a good place to start? I played really heavily into IndustrialCraft/BuildCraft, reactors, and also magic stuff. Thanks.

Monster is good, but if you're already feeling overwhelmed you might want to start with a smaller pack. I personally use the Direwolf20 Pack for 1.6: it has a mix of tech (IC2, thermal expansion, buildcraft), magic (ars magica, thaumcraft 4) and other mods (tinkers' construct, morph, biomes o' plenty), to name a few. It also helps that you can follow along with Direwolf20's Season 6 Let's Play to get an idea of what's available to you in the pack.

 

If you're looking for SMP, you may want to start by finding a server that you think looks good, and use whichever pack they're using. We have a list of servers that users have made, as well as the server advertising subforum where you can look through the listings.

Monster and direwolf are super overwhelming very large packs. If you play them id suggest sticking with the mods you know to start with. Just note in any pack mod mechanics have been updated quite a bit (ic2 and thaumcraft especially). So it wont be exactly the same. Starting with one of the smaller third party packs might be beneficial. ~Rawrz

Lite pack is a little frustrating in the other way :/ not having enough mods to do what you want ~Rawrz
